Feels Like No One

alone acting like someone else shadows empty

started late
began again early
never thought bad ideas would hurt me
even though it always
blows up in my face
as a courtesy

what i wanted
is all i’ve ever cleaved to
designed for merit
only to inherit nothing

never should have been coy
should’ve taken what i wanted and left it
as is

as is i’m
running out of options
time is scarce again

i’ve never been a front for
something else
to take me
but lately it feels like
i’m running on
empty

and it feels like / SOMEONE ELSE
and it feels like //// NOBODY
and it feels like // NOBODY ELSE
and it feels like /// NOTHING

JD Jurado- It’s about acting like someone you’re not.

cleaved verb
often cited as an “auto-antonym,” a word which can mean its own opposite, because “cleave” can be used to mean both “to split apart” and “to stick together.”
